The Wiesmann brothers had been aware in good time of the financial risks involved in setting up a vehicle production facility. For this reason, they first set up a facility for producing hard tops for convertibles with the appropriate storage system. They had a convertible in the family, and this proved them how essential a solid roof was, especially in winter. Along with not inconsiderable private funds being invested in the roadster development, the hard top production provided a long-term and solid financial base for covering the huge development costs.
Fortunately, these hard tops were very well accepted by the market; on the one hand, they guaranteed financial survival, and on the other, they attracted the necessary recognition through cooperation with the car manufacturers. This culminated in a supply contract between the BMW AG and Wiesmann for motive power engineering for the roadster they were developing.
